BBC Call The Midwife star who left show to star in a Hollywood movie
Fans of the BBC period drama Call the Midwife have had to say goodbye to more than a few beloved characters over the years including Sister Winifred, who was played by Victoria Yeates. Sister Winifred was introduced at the beginning of series three of the show and was last seen in the 2018 Christmas special that followed after the series seven finale.
In Call the Midwife, Sister Winifred decided to continue her work with the children at an orphanage, leaving her duties at the nunnery behind. However, in real-life, the actress landed a role on a huge blockbuster movie - the Harry Potter spin-off movie, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
A continuation from the first film released in 2016, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them focused on Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander on a quest to defeat Grindelwald of his evil plans with instructions from headmaster of Hogwarts, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law).
Victoria played a witch named Bunty, who is the assistant to Eddie Redmayne’s magizoologist Newton Scamander, in the JK Rowling film. Victoria said Rowling was “a role model”, and added: “I’ve always been a fan. She’s everything you’d expect – funny, intelligent and warm.”
She bid farewell to her cast members and crew after having spent five years on the show saying that she would miss it dearly. At the time she said: "I have absolutely adored my time on Call The Midwife and leave having made some best friends on the show."
Adding, "I have been lucky to have worked with some of the best actresses and actors in the business. However, with the opportunity of Fantastic Beasts and all that it entails, it became clear that it was time to hang up Sister Winifred's wimple and move onto the next adventure."
